Smack Mellon Studios is a nonprofit arts organization located in the "Dumbo" area of Brooklyn, NY. Conceived in 1995 as a multidisciplinary exchange between visual artists and musicians, it has evolved into an organization whose mission is to nurture and support emerging and mid-career artists by providing access to technology, studio space and exhibition space necessary for the realization of ambitious projects. We see ourselves as a vehicle whereby underrepresented artists can create, explore and exhibit their creative ideas. Our programs include an Exhibition Program, which produces museum scale visual arts exhibitions, and an Artist Studio Program, which provides much needed studio space, as well as creative and financial support. We strive to create an environment where artists can experiment and explore creative ideas outside of the concerns of the commercial art world. Artists are encouraged to work together, share ideas and mentor each other.
