Mission Statement
The mission of Anthology Film Archives is to preserve, exhibit and promote independent, avant-garde and artist film and video.
Description
Anthology operates an international center for the preservation, study, and exhibition of the essential works of film and video/landmarks in the history and aesthetic development of media as personal expression. In addition to its preservation and exhibition programs, Anthology gathers and maintains film and video collections, publishes books and catalogs, and assembles traveling film and video exhibitions which are presented at museums and art centers around the world. Anthology screens roughly 1,000 programs per year, features appearances by artists with their work, and publishes books and catalogs annually. Anthology maintains a collection of approximately 20,000 films and 5,000 videos and preserves an average of 25 films per year (with more than 750 works preserved to date). The broader mission of Anthology is to explore historic and cinematic culture by its preservation and exhibition of artists, auteurs and amateurs.
