Mission StatementThe mission of The African Diaspora Film Festival, Inc is to expand the traditional views and perceptions of what the Black experience is by showcasing films depicting the richness and diversity of the global Black experience from Peru to Zimbabwe, from New Zealand to Jamaica. The African Diaspora Film Festival, Inc. seeks to advance public interest in and understanding of the cinema from, about and related to Africa and the African Diaspora; to expose the public to the works of established and emerging filmmakers through film festivals and other productions such as panel discussions, film series, outreach programs and other activities; and to provide filmmakers with a forum to expose their works to the public. Established in 1993, ADFF is an annual, seventeen day long event that features over 70 World and US premieres, recent popular titles, classic movies and independent releases. |
DescriptionThe African Diaspora Film Festival, Inc.'s main event is its festival -- ADFF - which features the work of emerging and established filmmakers. Established in 1993, ADFF is an annual, seventeen day long event that features over 70 World and US premieres, recent popular titles, classic movies and independent releases. ADFF invites filmmakers in residence who dialog with the audience after the screenings. Panel discussions are held to further expand on the learning experience provided by the festival. In line with its educational mission, the festival also offers a Young People Screenings program specially addressed to young people and has developed in collaboration with Teachers College, Columbia University a formal training program offered for credit to students and teachers who wish to learn how to use films from Africa and the African Diaspora in the classroom. |
