Mission Statement

The Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) is a secular, non-profit arts organization that promotes the production, exhibition, publication, and performance of Indian and cross-cultural arts forms in North America. The IAAC supports all exhibition, publication, and performance of Indian and cross-cultural art forms in North America. The IAAC supports all artistic disciplines influenced by the arts of India, and works cooperatively with artists and arts organizations in a network for shared information, resources, and funding.

Description

IAAC has helped many artists and art organizations in North America and India to exhibit, perform, and produce their work in the New York City area. Since 1998, the IAAC has presented over 40 cultural events, ranging from theatre productions by American and Indian playwrights and actors, new play development workshops, arts exhibitions, panel discussions, fashion shows, book launchings and film festivals. The largest and most influential event in IAAC's young history has been the extraordinarily successful and highly-visible annual "MIAAC Film Festival". Concieved in 2001, the festivals have steadily grown in attendance and stature. Each festival attracts over 15,000 moviegoers to view over 60 films. The Indo-American Arts Council events feature noteable filmmakers, thespians, authors, dancers, visual artists and musicians including Ismail Merchant, Mira Nair, Gurinder Chadha, Shabana Azmi, Roshan Seth, Kal Penn, Madhur Jaffrey, Salman Rushdie, William Dalrymple, Suketu Mehta, Kiran Desai, Orhan Pamuk, Mallika Sarabai, M.F.Husain, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia and several others.
