Founded in 1990, AFF’s mission is to promote knowledge and understanding of African culture through the moving image; increase the distribution of African media in the United States to reach broad, diverse audiences; enhance opportunities and visibility for African media artists, and facilitate dialogue between African filmmakers and their international counterparts. In this way, AFF seeks to counter incomplete, distorted perceptions of African people and their culture through the voices and viewpoints of Africans themselves.
